Austin Heritage Consultants are based in Moray, but have wide ranging experience and can provide services anywhere in the United Kingdom.
Heritage projects we have been involved with range from small, individual buildings (such as houses, churches, theatres and industrial buildings) to the investigation of large sites and landscapes (including large country houses, estates and conservation areas).
Jen has over 10 years experience in the heritage industry in both Australia and the UK. Her work has involved the preparation and production of conservation plans, conservation statements, heritage audits, character appraisals, and the development of site and building gazetteers and databases.
Extensive historical research and analysis play a key role in Jen’s work and as every site is different, she is keen to help her clients with their individual needs.
Studying architecture at the University of Sydney, Jen graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Architecture) in 1998. She continued her studies at the university to receive a Masters degree (with honours) in Heritage Conservation in 2002.
Jen was most recently employed as an Associate and Team Leader of the Architectural History Team at Simpson & Brown Architects in Edinburgh. She joined Simpson & Brown in October 2003 and finished in March 2010. Prior to this, she was employed as a Built Heritage Consultant for Godden Mackay Logan Heritage Consultants and Brian McDonald + Associates Architects, both in Sydney. During the summer of 2003, Jen was a participant in the US/ICOMOS Summer Internship Program with the US National Park Service at Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina.
In the past 10 years, Jen has been involved in the completion of a variety of type and size of projects. Some of these are listed below (with respective employer):
Jen has a particular interest in the conservation of materials and in 2003 was awarded a Fellowship by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust of Australia to study the manufacture, conservation and use (historical and current) of architectural terracotta and faience in the USA and UK.
